Cooking

Dustin and J.J. 'cooking' at Grandma's house.

Dustin and J.J.

This is Dustin and his cousin, my sister's oldest son who is 3 months younger than Dustin. They are at my moms house in Silver City, NM.

All Dressed Up

Dustin was a couple of months old here. I think we were on our way to a wedding and Lee was the best man. It wasn't often we got dressed up like this. Or he was anyway.

A New Grandma

My parents were so proud of their first grandchild. They would have 4 grandsons and 1 granddaughter. Oh, what I would have given to have had a digital camera way back then.

Dustin

10 years after Lee and I were married we had our son, Dustin.

When I was in high school we lived near my mother's cousin, Rex Green. This is his son, Kelly. Kelly and I went to high school together.

With Grandma

This is my other grandparent, Grandma Barnett when we went for a visit to Cortez, Co about 1956 or '57. That's me on her right and her youngest, my uncle George on her left. the old car behind us would have been the one Daddy had at that time. I think maybe right after he came back from England.

Gram and Papa

This is my grandmother, Alma, and my papa in about 1959 at the Valley of Fire State Park near Las Vegas, NV.

Me and Sport

This is me, my mom, and my dog, Sport. Quite a change from this to the photo of me and my dad in uniform in the last post.

In Uniform

Me and my dad, Robert Barnett, in our uniforms when I was home from Navy bootcamp for a few days of leave before going to San Diego, CA. Dad was in the Air Force for 20 years.

Graduation

Bonnie

This is Bonnie or Bonita, the little dog we got when we lived in Sandpoint, Idaho in 1966. This was taken in Sandpoint. After we moved to Albuquerque the next year she had two litters of pups and we kept a pup we named Tag from the first litter.

Tag

This is Bonnie's son from her first litter, Tag. Taken in 1968 in Albuquerque, NM

Bear Hunter

This is my dad with the skin of the bear he killed when we lived in Sandpoint, Idaho. For some reason it never bothered us when he hunted deer but the bear caused all of us to have nightmares especially my little sister, Janice.
Some people might say I am wrong to keep these photos, and put them on here but this was my dad and what he liked to do.

The Hunter

This is my dad with the antlers from the deer he killed while we lived in Sandpoint, Idaho. That is our house behind him, and our puppy, Bonnie with him. Actually I should be in the photo, too. Daddy when out one day and killed the deer but was only able to bring in the two hind quarters of the deer that evening before it got dark. He wanted me to go back with him the next to help get the rest of it as it would be a long walk. I was thrilled, and of course I got to skip school. A lot of the kids there could get out of school for hunting as many families depending on deer and elk meat for food, as we did. So off I went with him the next day and walked the two miles in to where the deer was. He cut the antlers off the head as it wasn't worth bringing out, but by law a hunter was required to have the antlers to prove it was a buck or male deer he had killed and not a female (doe). He decided he could only carry one of the front quarters and I would carry the antlers. It was a very long walk back to the truck with that set of antlers across my shoulders but I made it. To make matters worse there was a big snow storm coming in and it was getting colder and colder so we left the other part of the deer there. Dad always said it was the only time he ever left part of a kill in the woods. He said the antlers were mine as I carried them out, and they still hang in my bedroom today. I don't mind antlers (deer lose them every winter anyway) but I sure don't want deer heads in my house.

9th Birthday

My 9th Birthday when all my friends came and we played dress up. I think I would have really prefurred something to do with horses, dogs, or cats.

Dress Up Party

Little girls used to play dress up in their mom's cloths (or grandma, or aunt, ect.) This is me (left) and my sisters, Sarah, (on right) and Janice (little girl). My mom had planned a Dress Up Birthday Party for me. Date was August 3, 1960, when I was 9.

Boulder Damn

Me standing on the bridge that goes across the top of Boulder Damn near Las Vegas, NV taken about 1959. I would have been 8 years old.

Bobby Barnett

Grandma Barnett always said we had a distant cousin that was a singer who had the same name as my dad, Robert Barnett, but who when by Bobby Barnett for his singing career. I never met him and I don't think my dad did, but here is the only photo I have of him. I had it in a scrapbook I kept as a kid. The picture was in something that came out telling about him when we lived in Tampa, Florida. I think he must have preformed at a club that was on base or near the base.

Gila Wilderness

Photo of Lee sitting on an ancher chain that had come off a Navy ship many years before. It was around a huge, old, grape vine growing near the Gila River on our first trip to Silver City in 1971 when we took a day trip to see the Gila River in the Gila Wildernes. About a year later the river flooded after spring rains and the grape vine and chain were swept down the river. I don't know if the chain was ever found.
